From the director of Road Trip comes this carbon copy of the original comedy, The Hangover. Yet again a bachelor party gets out of hand, only this time it is Stu’s and it’s taking place in Thailand, the home country of his bride. Just like in the first film, Doug is not involved in the actual hangover, but they have not lost him this time, instead they have lost Stu’s fiancĂ©e’s brother, sixteen-year-old Teddy.
Instead of waking up with a tiger, they wake up with a monkey, instead of returning a tiger to Mike Tyson, they return a monkey to drug dealers, instead of being threatened by Chow and having Doug held ransom by him, the same pretty much happens but with Paul Giamatti’s character. It’s embarrassingly similar and painfully unimaginative, but I do have to give the writers credit for keeping up the comedy.
If it is any less funny than the original, this is because it’s no longer original, but the jokes are new with the same personalities and sense of humour than the original. Not as enjoyable to watch, but not the train wreck I expected it to be. But if they do another, I don’t think I’ll bother…
