Kevin Smith writes and directs this teen movie about two young men who simultaneously get dumped by their girlfriends and subsequently spend the entire day at the mall to cheer themselves up and plot to win them back.
With appearances from Jay and Silent Bob, and a lot of random yet classic Kevin Smith style comedy, Mallrats is funny and enjoyable. One thing I was disappointed about, however, is the fact that I didn’t watch this film sooner. I do love Kevin Smith, I think he’s got a great comedy style and he’s a superb director, but this, along with other films of his, may have appealed to me more had I watched them in my early teen years.
The acting itself is sketchy in parts, but I guess that’s just the style of the comedy, sometimes a bit cringe-worthy, but embarrassingly funny nonetheless.
So I may be a little outside of the targeted area in terms of its audience, but I did still enjoy the film, although it may not be something I would be looking to watch again. The direction is brilliant, but all said and done, there are other Kevin Smith films which are funnier where I can enjoy the direction too.
