The Crow is your run of the mill revenge flick with a twist of sci-fi/ fantasy, telling the story of a man who comes back from the dead to avenge his dead fiancée.
This is the film in which Brandon Lee (son of Bruce Lee) was accidentally killed via a prop malfunction, and according to my vague research, about four scenes were left to shoot after his death, which were done by body doubles, replicating other scenes and CGI. Considering this, the technology in the film is fantastic as this is barely recognisable, however one criticism about the film is the script itself. The dialogue is shoddy and the plot is basic and has been done a million times before. What I did like was the cinematography, mise-en-scene and the soundtrack.
The content has been dramatically compromised by the style, but on the whole it’s not a bad film, fairly easy to watch and enjoyable. One last criticism I had of the film towards the end was that it seemed to go on forever. While watching this I spent the first hour waiting for it to get better, and then after giving up, I spent the last half hour waiting for it to end. Not exactly memorable but a 101 and how to on cinematic style.
