Day 129: The Lincoln Lawyer (Furman, 2011)

Mick Haller (McConaughey) is a defense lawyer battling his conscious when he realises that his client may be guilty. Wise to his lawyer’s suspicions, Louis (Phillippe) threatens, cheats and cons his way through the hearing.

I have heard rave reviews about this film and so I was expecting quite a lot of it, and I wasn’t as disappointed as I could have been. It’s got a great soundtrack, brilliantly written characters with a few nice plot twists, but as sleek as the soundtrack, plot and characters are, I would have hoped for more adventerous cinematography and editing, which could have exaggerated the characters more and generally tightened up the whole film, boosting it to a five star rating.

All in all it’s a great film, fairly easy to watch but still captivating and intricate, the cast are well chosen and great in their roles, and the general direction is clean and tidy. Best part about this film – It is possibly Matthew McConaughey’s greatest role, and best acting I have seen at least; he has come a long way from this days in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and he is becoming quite a fine actor in his 40s. I can see his with an Oscar win in a few years time now he has settled into more serious movies.

4 star film
