On Golden Pond is an absolutely gorgeous film about an old married couple, Norman (Fonda) and Ethel (Hepburn) who, every summer, go to Golden Pond to stay at their summer cottage. During their summer holiday there, their daughter Chelsea (Fonda) comes to stay with her new boyfriend, Bill and his son from a previous marriage, and when Chelsea and Bill go to Europe, they leave Bill jr. behind to stay with Norman and Ethel.
This is simultaneously hilarious and heart warming as Norman, the grumpiest man alive, bonds with Bill jr. and Chelsea tries to mend her broken relationship with her father. The chemistry between all of the astounding talents in this film is unbelievable, and I don’t feel like I’ve felt such a human connection with film characters for a long time. Katherine Hepburn and Henry Fonda are equally stunning in their roles, never breaking character, and both as charming and funny as each other. It’s also a visually stunning movie as Rydell makes best use of the beautiful scenery, and the direction is impeccable.
All in all it’s a spectacular movie, a feel-good, enlightening film and a must-see for everyone.
