Clint Eastwood stars and directs this Western classic about a retired assassin who takes on his last job with an old friend. Also starring Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman, this film has a brilliant cast with superbly acted parts. The plot is slightly underdone for the length of the film though – it does feel like it goes on a little too long although having said that, each and every scene screams quality of the highest standards and so it’s not so hard to believe that Eastwood may have been a little self indulgent in the editing process.
The direction itself speaks volumes of Eastwood’s career – he clearly knows what he is doing and knows how to entertain his audiences. More importantly, he has a spectacular eye for the scenery, with every shot looking like it was so meticulously thought out, and he seems to pull every last inch of talent from the actors.
Overall it is a little bit long and you may find it a bit boring if you’re not into Westerns, but it’s so worth it in the end for the amazing acting, direction, cinematography and generally a gripping storyline, with incredibly written dialogue.
