Written and directed by Woody Allen, Match Point is a film about love, lust, cheating and murder. It initially seems very similar to the Allen films you may be used to, but as soon as you start to settle into the traditional romance/drama (not so much comedy as you may expect from Allen) narrative, Allen throws a curveball as he often does – it is this that separates each of his films from one another.
Chris (Meyers) is a rich bachelor and tennis instructor descending from a line of upper-class Englishmen. One day he meets and falls in love with Chloe (Mortimer), but the same happens when he meets Nola (Johansson), an American wannabe actress. Torn between his two loves – the woman of his class and with a powerful father-in-law, and a passionate fantasy romance with Nola, Chris attempts to juggle the two women, but it soon becomes too much for him to handle.
It’s a great film to watch for fans of Woody Allen, although he isn’t actually in it, however, the direction and the script are both superb.
