Dead of Night is a combination of several horror stories told through conversation at a guest house. Some stories involve demon puppets, others include mysterious mirrors but, generally, it’s kid’s stuff.
It isn’t a scary film by today’s standards, at least not to anyone over the age of five, but it does have its moments where it borders creepy. This is not to say that it is not a well-made film though, the cinematography is spectacular throughout, and I didn’t even realise that it was done by four separate directors (each to their different segments) which is obviously a good thing. Normally, when a film is directed by more than one person, you do get contradicting ideas within the technical applications, however this was consistent throughout and therefore an enjoyable movie to watch, but still nothing to write home about…
Overall it’s well made, enjoyable but because it isn’t scary, for me at least, it doesn’t fulfil it’s purpose and so loses credit – not exactly timeless.
